| offered with generous support from the Darrow Family the first installment of The Future of Oceans lecture series: "In Deeper Waters: Exploring Earth's Largest, Yet Least Understood, Biome" Dr. Christopher Kelly Sunday, November 8 3 pm via ZOOM FREE |
| | Earth is a water world with the sea covering 70% of its surface. Even though the depths below SCUBA represent the largest biome on the planet, the "deep sea" is also the least understood because its environment is hostile to us terrestrials and our technology. However, accessing this huge unknown territory and discovering what is going on down there is crucial to the understanding of our planet as a whole. Dr. Kelly has led a variety of projects using sonar mapping, manned submersibles, and ROVs throughout the Pacific ranging in depth from 200 m to 6000 m. He will share with you not only the "why and how" of deep sea research but some of his more interesting experiences and findings while working in deeper waters. |

| | Final Weeks! UNDERSEA GARDEN ART SHOW A portion of the show's sales support PTMSC! |
| | Port Angeles Fine Arts Center Exhibition Dates: September 12 – November 15 |
| Presented by Tangled Fibers, a collaborative group of four Olympic Peninsula fiber artists. Using fiber, color, texture and whimsy, the Tangled Fibers artists will create kelp, tide pools, octopus, sea stars, nudibranchs, jellyfish and other forms of life found under and over its shores. The Arts Center's intimate side gallery will be transformed into an installation that transports visitors into the world of the Salish Sea itself. The main gallery will feature more traditional art objects, wall hangings, sculptures and quilts—all inspired by the sea—its vastness and beauty, as well as issues such as diversity loss and ocean acidification. | CARES Act Encourages Giving |
| | Congress included a way to make it easier to donate to the causes you care about by including these provisions in the CARES Act: - $300 of charitable giving (cash) is deductible even if you don't itemize
- If you do itemize, the deductible limit is raised from 60% to 100% of adjusted gross income
- Finally, the government has sent out checks of $1,200 to most Americans. Many people who can afford to do so, are paying these funds forward to support organizations they love.
If you have questions, contact Liesl Slabaugh, Development and Marketing Director at lslabaugh@ptmsc.org |
| | | PTMSC - Always available on Social Media Though our exhibits aren't open, you can always find us 24/7/365 on Facebook and Instagram. Follow us as we move through the days ahead--together we will continue to inspire conservation of the Salish Sea! |
