UPCOMING EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TRANSITION

The Port Townsend Marine Science Center will sadly say goodbye to its 8-year executive director, Janine Boire, on March 31, 2022. Janine is stepping down in order to pursue new life journeys. Read Janine’s message to the PTMSC community here.

Since joining the PTMSC in 2013, Janine has helped the organization build a strong foundation for growth, including the acquisition of PTMSC's future headquarters at Flagship Landing at 1001 Water Street. The PTMSC Board is grateful for the legacy left by Janine and will be announcing its search for a new executive director soon.

Janine, you will be missed, we thank you for your dedication to a healthy Salish Sea and wish you all the best!

THROUGH OCTOBER 31st ONLY!
"ORCA: Shared Waters, Shared Home"

The Orca Exhibit is located in Museum Building at Fort Worden State Park. Open through October 31 only.

Check out the Lynda Mapes interview on Science Friday!

The interactive exhibit “Orca: Shared Waters, Shared Home” explores the history and plight of two endangered -- and intertwined -- species of the Salish Sea: Southern Resident killer whales and Chinook salmon.

Based on the book of the same name, the traveling exhibit features captivating photography with stories by author and Seattle Times journalist Lynda V. Mapes. It complements the PTMSC’s permanent exhibit, “Learning from Orcas – The Story of Hope” at the PTMSC museum. The exhibit runs through October 31st.

The exhibit is designed for all ages. For children there’s an orca rocker, a drawing and coloring table, children's books about orcas, a dorsal fin to measure one's relative height, model whale toys and an orca rope to show the size of adult and newborn orcas. Adults can review the display panels, view the Seattle Times’ Hostile Waters webpage, and read newspaper reprints and excerpts from Mapes' book. Also, a monitor will be running the orcasound.net website as well as a sound loop of orca recordings made by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
